Full spiritual enlightment

10553595_339599722861642_3618995892573186336_nThe Aghori are known to engage in post-mortem rituals. They often dwell in charnel grounds, have been witnessed smearing cremation ashes on their bodies, and have been known to use bones from human corpses for crafting skull bowls (which Shiva and other Hindu deities are often iconically depicted holding or using) and jewelry. Due to their practices that are contradictory to orthodox Hinduism, they are generally opposed.

Many Aghori gurus command great reverence from rural populations as they are supposed to possess healing powers gained through their intensely eremitic rites and practices of renunciation and tápasya. They are also known to meditate and perform worship in haunted houses. Aghoris are devotees of Shiva manifested as Bhairava,[5] are monists who seek moksha from the cycle of reincarnation or saṃsāra. This freedom is a realization of the self's identity with the absolute. Because of this monistic doctrine, the Aghoris maintain that all opposites are ultimately illusory. The purpose of embracing pollution and degradation through various customs is the realization of non-duality (advaita) through transcending social taboos, attaining what is essentially an altered state of consciousness and perceiving the illusory nature of all conventional categories.

Aghoris are not to be confused with Shivnetras, who are also ardent devotees of Shiva but do not indulge in extreme, tamasic ritual practices. Although the Aghoris enjoy close ties with the Shivnetras, the two groups are quite distinct, Shivnetras engaging in sattvic worship.

Aghoris base their beliefs on two principles common to broader Shaiva beliefs: that Shiva is perfect (having omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence) and that Shiva is responsible for everything that occurs – all conditions, causes and effects. Consequently, everything that exists must be perfect and to deny the perfection of anything would be to deny the sacredness of all life in its full manifestation, as well as to deny the Supreme Being.

Aghoris believe that every person's soul is Shiva but is covered by astamahapasha ("eight great nooses or bonds") - sensual pleasure, anger, greed, obsession, fear and hatred. The practices of the Aghoris are centered around the removal of these bonds. Sadhana in cremation grounds destroys fear; sexual practices with certain riders and controls help release one from sexual desire; being naked destroys shame. On release from all the eight bonds the soul becomes sadashiva and obtains moksha. The Aghori ascetic is himself a symbol of the God Shiva in Shiva's form as Bhairava. The main symbol which makes him distinct from other sadhus is the skull cup he uses as a begging bowl. He goes naked or wears the shroud of a corpse, covers himself in the ashes of the cremation ground and always has his hair disheveled or in matted dreadlocks. If an aghori uses a corpse as part of his ritual worship, the corpse upon which he meditates, it is a symbol of his own body, and the corpse-devouring ritual is a symbol of the transcendence of his lower self and a realization of the greater, all pervading Self that is universal consciousness. Another symbol of the aghori, which ties him to the affiliation of Bhairava and links aghoris together with other Saiva and Sakta traditions, is the trident.

The three pronged trident staff in Tantric Hinduism, which aghoris follow, is a symbol representing the three constituents of which Shiva and/or Shakti first creates the universe: iccha shakti (power of will/desire/intention), gyaan shakti (power of knowledge – the preconceived architectural design of the universe), and kriya shakti (the power of action). The staff part of a trident in Hinduism represents the human spinal cord, of which the sushumna nadi runs along. The sushumna nadi is the main nerve current, or meridian, in the human body which is the track that the kundalini energy rises up, bringing the aghori or yogi, or meditation practitioner, into full spiritual enlightenment

The Power of Concentration

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="510" caption="Power of mind"]image[/caption]

"The powers of the mind are like the rays of the sun. When they are concentrated, they illumine." - Swami Vivekananda

When I was a child, I saw how a magnifying glass could burn a piece of paper, when the rays of the sun were focused through it on one point. The fire could only be ignited, when the sun's rays were concentrated on a small point. When the magnifying glass was moved too far away, or too close to the paper, the rays were not focused enough, and nothing happened.

This experience, describes vividly, how the power of concentration works. It is a skill, which enables you to fix your attention on one single thought or subject, while at the same time excluding from your awareness everything else.

"The power of concentration manifests as focused attention and as a one pointed mind."

When you focus your mind, you conserve your energies and do not dissipate them on irrelevant thoughts or activities. This is why, developing concentration is vital for anyone aspiring to be more efficient and take charge of his or her life. This skill is vital for every kind of success. Without it, your efforts get scattered, but with it, you can accomplish great things.

Concentration has many uses and benefits. It assists in studying, enables faster comprehension, improves the memory, helps in focusing on a task, job or goal, and therefore, achieving them more easily and efficiently. It is a powerful tool for the efficient use of creative visualization, and it also helps in developing psychic powers.

When this ability is strong, the mind obeys you more readily and does not engage in futile, negative thoughts or worries. This ability plays an important role in meditation, gaining mental mastery, and attaining peace of mind.

Without it, the mind just jumps restlessly from one thought to another, not allowing you to meditate properly.

Do you now realize, why it is very important and worthwhile to develop and improve the ability to concentrate?

To develop this power you need to train and exercise it. Forget all your excuses about not having the time or being too busy. Do not say that the circumstances are not appropriate, or that you cannot find a quiet place to exercise. With a little planning, desire and motivation, you can always find the time to exercise each day, no matter how busy you are.

10 Fat-Burning Yoga Poses

image

That’s right, yoga isn’t just a bunch of stretching—it can torch major calories! It builds muscle, which causes fat to melt, and can also increase your heart rate, which aids in boosting your metabolism.

These poses are some of the best to burn calories. Do this entire sequence three to five days a week, and any extra padding on your body will turn into sleekly sculpted muscle in no time.

image

Down Dog Split, Knee-to Nose-Repetitions: From down dog, inhale your right leg high, opening the hip if that feels nice. On an exhale, start to round your right knee to your nose, drawing your navel toward your spine. Inhale your leg back to down dog split. Do 10 reps, then repeat the sequence with your left leg.

image

Plank with Arm-Leg Lift: From down dog, roll out into plank with your shoulders and wrists lined up, lengthening from the crown of your head through your heels. Reach your right arm forward and lift your left foot off the ground. Take three deep breaths here, then repeat with your left arm and right foot. Do 5 to 10 reps on each side.

image

Dolphin Push-ups: From all fours, place your forearms on the ground shoulder-distance apart, then tuck your toes and lift your hips. From here, start to lower your chin toward your thumbs on an inhale, coming almost to a forearm plank but not quite since your feet are too close to your elbows for that. Use your exhale to lift back to dolphin, raising your hips back toward the ceiling. Do 20 reps.

image

Forearm Stand: From dolphin, walk your feet toward your elbows and lift one leg toward the ceiling. Start to rock forward and lift both legs off the ground. (You can also do this against a wall.) Try to stay here for 5 deep breaths.

image

Wheel: Lie on your back, knees bent and feet on the ground hip-distance apart. Bend your elbows and place your hands on either side of your head shoulder-distance part, fingers pointing toward your shoulders. Pressing into your feet and hands equally, lift your hips and lengthen your arms. Keep pressing into your feet (especially through the big toe mound) and reaching your chest away from your feet as you stay here for 5 deep breaths. Be sure to tuck your chin to your chest before you slowly come down.

image

High Lunge Twist Repetitions: From high lunge with your right foot forward, inhale to straighten your legs and lift your arms high. On your exhale, come back down to high lunge, reaching your left arm forward and your right arm back. Inhale back to center. Do 10 to 20 reps, then repeat on the opposite side.

image

Revolved Half Moon: From a supported warrior three with your right leg on the ground and your left fingertips on the ground or a block, lift your right arm toward the ceiling and look up at your fingertips. Stay here for 5 deep breaths, then repeat on the left side.

image

Chair: From standing, sink your hips and reach your arms high. Look in front of your knees and make sure you can see your toes. If you can’t, sit back until you can. Take care to drop your shoulders away from your ears—maybe even try turning the corners of your mouth up—and breath for 5 long, deep breaths.

image

Crow: From a forward fold, plant your palms shoulder-distance apart on the mat. Press into your fingertips, look slightly forward, and take your knees into the back of your upper arms, aiming for your armpits, though your knees will most likely slide down. Bend your elbows and, one at a time, lift your feet off the ground, reaching your heels toward your butt. Breathe here for 5 deep breaths.

image

Tip Toe: With arms by your sides and keeping your toes and knees together, rise up on the balls of your feet and squat, lowering your butt to hover just about your heels. One at a time, try to take your hands together at the center of your chest and stay here for 5 deep breaths.

Love is never a Relationship

image

Relationship means something complete, finished, closed. Love is never a relationship; love is relating. It is always a river, flowing, unending. Love knows no full stop; the honeymoon begins but never ends. It is not like a novel that starts at a certain point and ends at a certain point. It is an ongoing phenomenon. Lovers end, love continues. relationship has a certainty. Love is not a relationship. It is worship. You dont have to be in a relationship to worship ! love has no conditioning ! love is as pure as the new born baby feels for the mother without the knowledge of language ! Be it for a loved one, a family member, a friend , a god or goddess. Tantra is experience ! Discover the power of love devotion or bhakti , whatever you want to call it !! The power of god or goodness ! stay satvik ! Bom shankar !
“Relationship means something complete, finished, closed. Love is never a relationship; love is relating. It is always a river, flowing, unending. Love knows no full stop; the honeymoon begins but never ends. It is not like a novel that starts at a certain point and ends at a certain point. It is an ongoing phenomenon. Lovers end, love continues. It is a continuum. It is a verb, not a noun.“And why do we reduce the beauty of relating to relationship? Why are we in such a hurry? – because to relate is insecure, and relationship isa security, relationship has a certainty. Relating is just a meeting of two strangers, maybe just anovernight stay and in the morning we say good-bye. Who knows what is going to happen tomorrow? And we are so afraid that we want to make it certain, we want to make it predictable. We would like tomorrow to be according to our ideas; we don’t allow it freedom to have its own say. So we immediately reduce every verb to a noun.”

Meditation slow downs time

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Meditation- the key to relaxation"]image[/caption]

time is an interesting dimension. when you close your eyes and meditate for long then time slows down. Have you experienced it ? They have experimentedwith cave dwellers living in darkness for long periods of time and they do not feel time passing by ! 3 hours seems like 30 mins. Can your experience slow or shift the time dimension ? intuition is the projection of your emotions into the timedimension. you are able to see time and life as a continuous sequence of events. Meditation is one of the keys to discover this force of divinity within you. Once you discover that divinity within you will discover the key to happiness. meditating and being detached during grihastashrama is not easy. all you can do is try. meditation can be as simple as looking intently at your spouse and being present when he / she is speaking to you. Tantra is experience. A man or woman never stops growing . discover pratyahara or the process of looking inward. discover hatha yoga ! Boom shankar !

The eye(I) Of intution

What does Shiva's rage signify ?
Isn't anger a product of the ego ?
How does the egoless One lose his temper ?as long as the anger is not about the I and if your anger is directed towards correcting injustice there is no I. Read about bandha singh bahadur a bairagi and shiva bhakt coverted to sikh guru. As far as the anger is not for your benefit. Remember no I and eye for an eye makes the whole world blind . Mystic City of Varanasi 2: Single Banaras, Single Ganga, But So Many Colors of Life

Varanasi, it always mesmerize me with its unique culture and tradition. I walk along the Ganga for hours, I sit at the ghats, I calmly watch the funeral procession at Harischandra and Manikarnika Ghat. This become the part of my life.
cremiation point
Apart from the Ganges and its famous ghats, there are also a lot of famous places to visit in Varanasi.

Popular Places to Visit in Banaras Other Than The Temples And The Ghats
During my recent visits, I noticed how this holy river “The Ganges” affects the life of Banaras. I captured numerous pictures of the life along this river in Varanasi. They are from different walks, doing different types of job and belonging to different communities, but one thing is common in all them–The Magic of Banaras attract them always.  I hope you will enjoy these colors of life at the ghats of Varanasi.
subah-e-banaras1
Subah-e-Banaras (Rising  Sun in Varanasi): I can bet you that no other places in the world has a beautiful morning like Varanasi. You may find a sun rising from the hills, a sun rising from the sea water, a sun rising behind the magnificent temples like Angkor Wat…they may give you a beautiful scene to capture..but in Banaras, the rising sun gives you an opportunity to capture the different colors of life. The morning is not a monotonous note here. Its a symbol of life here. With the rising sun, you will find people taking bath, offering prayers, enjoying boat-rides in the golden water, performing number of rituals at the ghats.  You can see a barber shaving-off the hair of a small child, a young man enjoying the swimming in the river, an old man chanting the prayers and a dead man on a funeral pyre. Life cycle of a person goes along the flow of the river.

People Enjoying the Boat-Ride with the rising sun
Tourists Enjoying the Boat-Rides: A walk along the river front in Varanasi and you find numerous boats running in the holy water of the Ganga. These boats are the best way to see the life at the ghats of Varanasi.  The boat-owners belong to a particular community of India known as ” Mallah” and their main work is to provide the boat services to the passengers across the rivers.  In the morning, you can enjoy beautiful sun-rise from the boats.  In the day, they can take you across the river, so that you can take bath in the less-polluted water of The Ganga on the other side. In the evening, these boats are the best bet to see the “Ganga Aarti” at Dashashwamedh Ghat.  In the night, these boats are a perfect sleeping place for some boat-owners. You can even see the boats standing few meters away from the funeral pyres and people calmly watching the funeral procession.

dhobhi ghat
Dhobi Ghat: Washer-men washing the Clothes Just adjacent to the Harishchandra Ghat, where funeral pyres burn, you find lot of  men washing clothes in the river. These men are from a particular community of India and known as “Dhobis”. Their main work to collect the dirty clothes from various households of their areas and then wash and iron those clothes to deliver again to the owners. They beat the clothes against the stone wash slabs at the ghats and then rinse them in the river water.

Walk along the river further and there is a lot of activities going on in the morning. It is amazing to see how this city wake up so early in the morning to perform these activities on the riverfront.
Spotted some boys catching the fish: Generally, the fish-catching is a profession of particular community known as “Machhuara” in India, but it is not restricted to them only. I spotted these boys catching the fish in the river and it is their own style to start the day.

Boys catching the fish
moving further, I also found a mother-daughter duo feeding the wheat flour to the fishes at the ghats. Boys catching them for death, mother-daughter feeding them for life…Life and Death live together in Varanasi. Where else in the world people want to die at a particular place? In Varanasi, death is always a sacred thing and it is believed that dying here give them a freedom from the cycle of birth and death.

People Taking Bath in the Ganges: For millions of Hindus, the river Ganga is the physical expression of goddess Ganga and bathing in her water is both spiritual ritual and necessary ablution. It is believed that a holy dip in the Ganga washed away all the sins of life. A lot of Hindus from the different parts of India come here regularly on a pilgrimage throughout the year.

Fine Arts students drawing a portrait: Varanasi has always been a great educational center of India. Its various universities offer many courses in the fine arts and you can always find these students in the streets with their card-boards, papers and pencils. But when it comes to figure out the colors of life, which place could be better than a ghat at The Ganges? This girl is trying to figure out that picture perfect at a ghat.

A fine arts student looking for a picture
Animals and Birds also enjoy their life in Banaras: Animals and birds equally enjoy the riverfront of the Ganga in Varanasi. Numerous stone staircases looks like a wide walkway for the animals as well as human. Thousands of visitors roaming along with buffalo, cows, goats, birds, and packs of wild dogs at the bank of the river.

Human and Dogs both enjoying the river together
Ghats are perfect playgrounds for children: These ghats are wide enough at some places to act as a perfect playground for the children. You can find children playing cricket, enjoying the kite-flying at the ghats of Varanasi.

Moving further, I found these women walking on the ghats with the pile of woods. These woods would be used by them for the cooking purpose.

Women carrying woods for cooking
Then, spotted a hawker selling these stuffs at the ghats of Varanasi. For this hawker, the ghats of Varanasi are the place to arrange the bread and butter for the family.

Selling stuffs to get some money

These ghats at the bank of river “The Ganga” depicts a perfect picture of humanity. There is movement, motion, human life everywhere and it starts from the early morning and then stops only in the late night. Many visitors roaming along with buffalo, cows, dogs…hawker selling drinks, foods, other stuffs, …people sleeping at the benches and stairs,…tourists enjoying the boat-rides,…pilgrims taking a dip in the holy river…moored boats as well as boats moving in the rivers…one sees all this and more while spending a day on the ghats along the Ganges in Varanasi.
